Meet Mr. Rice

Mr. Rice was born in Maryland but since age 1 grew up in the West Virginia Hills (which is also the state’s official song). His entire county only had one traffic light!

He moved to Lynchburg in 1991 to attend Liberty University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a minor in Psychology. In 2001 he graduated, again from LU, with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. His final paper was completed while in the hospital waiting on his first child to be born! He has a total of four children which include fraternal twins, and a soon to be one year old!

Like his father before him, he considers himself a ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’ as his hobbies vary, and include vegetable gardening, genealogy research, photography, or anything else he finds interesting at the time. He also enjoys watching the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Football Team play.

Mr. Rice has been teaching music in Rustburg (JJ Fray/Rustburg Elementary) for 23 years now. After teaching his first three years, he moved from Lynchburg to the Rustburg area in 2000 because it reminded him of his hometown, and he knew this is where he was to be for the long haul.
